The work safety calendar of the Vinci Group, featuring companies such as Actemium, Cegelec, Omexom, and many others, has been designed by Artist Design for ten years. From 2017 onwards, the agency also took over creating the illustrations, which became part of my responsibilities.
The development of the 2022 calendar took place in 2021, during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The client expressed a desire to link the calendar with the company’s annual "Safety Week" – an internal event featuring workshops on various work safety topics.
Due to the pandemic, the Safety Week in 2021 was held exclusively in a virtual format. The teams from the individual companies were tasked with creating short, informative videos, each covering a specific area of work safety.
At Artist Design, the idea emerged to base the calendar motifs on scenes from the client-produced videos and to replicate them as accurately as possible. Additionally, a short animated intro was created for the videos, designed to transition seamlessly into the client’s footage. Furthermore, the concept of incorporating a camera crew into each motif was developed to create the impression of a "making-of" scenario for the videos.
The calendar layout for different firms belonging to Vinci Group and in several languages as well as the video editing and type animations were done by Creative Director Aksel Wagner and Jörg Fröhling.
The extensive briefing made this project a challenge for me. The result was a series of partly very complex illustrations, which I am proud of to this day.
