The Vinci Group – particularly Vinci Energies with brands such as Actemium, Axians, and Omexom – have been long-standing clients of Artist Design. Since 2016 (for the year 2017), I have been creating the illustrations for the annual "work safety calendar" of these companies at Artist Design. The Vinci calendar for 2019 was already the third calendar I illustrated.
The main concept was to depict the floors of a high-rise building in an extreme vertical format, with each floor showing a scene related to a work safety topic. At the center of each scene is "Mr. Energies," a character already familiar from the previous calendars. The calendar’s format, measuring 42 × 59.4 cm (German Industry Norm/DIN A2 – 16.54 × 23.39 inches), was deliberately chosen to be very large. The hanging design allows four floors of the building to be visible at once when unfolded.
The title was illustrated as a scene on the rooftop, so viewers move downwards month by month, eventually arriving at the snowy entrance in December. The calendar grid was designed as the control panel of an elevator.
In addition to the calendar, a nearly three-minute film was created, for which I developed small character animations. While animation is not my core expertise, the result is highly commendable, thanks to the video compositing work by Jörg Fröhling from Artist Design.
