The SHK Essen is one of the leading trade fairs for the HVAC and plumbing sector in Germany, showcasing innovations in the fields of sanitary technology, heating, air conditioning, and renewable energies. The IFH/Intherm in Nuremberg is considered its southern German counterpart, also focusing on the latest developments in building technology, energy efficiency, and sustainable solutions.
Both trade fairs have been important fixtures in the calendar of Artist Design and the client EC POWER for many years. Held biennially, the 2018 events offered the opportunity to cover both with a single design due to identical stand dimensions, providing organisational and financial advantages.
The 2018 design introduced the most important creative elements of the trade fair year. Noteworthy were the impressive LED video walls, over five meters tall, displaying animations specially produced at Artist Design by Jörg Fröhling and me. Additionally, the so-called "lamp swarm" made its debut – a formation of 40 "cube" lamps suspended at varying heights in the client’s signature yellow. From the previous year, we retained the graffiti graphic "Pimp my Heat," which I designed, as well as the large-scale printed concrete-look surfaces.
As with other projects, my responsibilities included design and concept development, communication with stand builders, trade fair management, and the client, as well as the organisation of orders, cost control, and the coordination of trade fair media and logistics. Moreover, I was significantly involved in the production of the video animations and created the graffiti lettering used on the stand.
